Exciting news for sim racing fans!  iRacing released the first glimpse of their rain integration feature in the UI. This is a huge step forward for the sim racing community, as it brings us one step closer to experiencing the thrill of racing in the rain from the comfort of our homes.

So, what can we expect from this new feature? Here are some things we can deduce from the teaser image:

  • A predetermined weather forecast will be in place before the session begins.
  • Real-world weather conditions may have an impact on the simulator’s weather, but with limitations to ensure optimal performance.
  • The track state will carry over from practice to qualifying and then to the race, with each having their respective time frames.
  • Weather conditions will be ever-changing, even within a single session, and with different levels of intensity. It will be interesting to see how granular this will be.
  • The forecast is an indication of possibility, without specifying wind speed, direction or intensity.
  • We’re unsure if this information will be included in the iRacing HUD, or how it will be implemented.

iRacing update

“As most of you know, a massive project has been underway to add rain,” The post says. “We are very excited about how it is all coming together. The plan for that is also to release it this year, and we are really pushing to do that.”

According to the post, this is promising not only for iRacing rain itself, but also as it will introduce new tyre dynamics. “The tires themselves are also being worked on constantly which will improve all forms of racing.” It seems the introduction of rain tyres, something already being added to the game in recent hotfixes, is pushing the development team to rework its tyre model as a whole. * From www.overtake.gg

With this new feature, sim racers can expect an even more immersive experience that challenges their skills and reactions like never before. And who knows? With sim racing prize money up for grabs in many events and leagues, mastering the rain could be your ticket to the podium and a well-deserved cash prize.

So get ready for the rain, sim racers! iRacing is bringing it to your screen, and it’s going to be a game-changer.
